About SASP

SASP is rifle and pistol action shooting where a Team, organized into squads, competes to shoot steel targets as fast as possible. SASP is the largest youth action shooting organization in the world. Athletes compete in State, Regional and National Championship Matches each year. In July, 2,500 competitors attend the SASP National Championships in Ohio.

Team

In SASP a team is the entire group of Athletes registered under a Head Coach. A team is divided into squads.

Squads

A squad is the competitive unit of four athletes who participate in SASP competitions.

Scoring

SASP is a timed event, so your time is your score. Athlete’s must hit all steel targets in the correct sequence to achieve their best score. At each stage, an athlete will be given five chances to achieve their best score. Those chances are known as strings. Once the athlete has shot five strings, the slowest string is eliminated. This results in the best four of five strings being counted toward the athlete’s final score.

Awards

Awards for each gun division in each discipline are given to a squad to the three squads with the fastest times. Individual athletes are awarded the “High Over All” (HOA) title if they have one of the three fastest times in their division and discipline.
